I have recently been feeling overwhelmed, and that is an understatement. What I have actually been feeling is an eruption of stress, guilt, the all encompassing fear of failure, the incessant need for either
a) a time turner (hit me up, Hermione) or
b) for time to stop entirely,
and just the general physical characteristics of drowning while never even touching water (because when am I supposed to shower even?)
When I get to this point, I know what I need to do...

SELF CARE AND STRESS MANAGEMENT IS NOT JUST IMPORTANT, IT IS IMPERATIVE!!!
As it turns out, despite the general mentality that I am the only person that is feeling like this (I have never claimed to be anything but self-centered), I am not alone. Young adults are the most stressed generation due to a number of reasons. 18-33 year olds spend nearly a quarter of their day feeling ''stressed out"!
With all of this stress, we need to unwind. We all need to take time, at least once a week, to do something for ourselves. Which is why I have enacted a mandatory "Treat Yo' Self Tuesday" for myself, my family, and now all of you! These activities will vary per your own personal taste; for example my mother self-cares by vacuuming, dusting, and wiping mirrors... because she was clearly abducted or has a robot brain, I can't explain it... it is nonsense to me. For some self-care ideas, check out The Perfectly Imperfect Project.
Today's activity, if you choose to align your treat with my own is an ALL SKATE, EVERYONE SKATE! This is whole family friendly and if your kids are weird like my own, then they will love this! When my kids get the chance to do family yoga, they pretend they are basically silly putty.
If anything, when we do yoga as a family: we laugh. That is enough stress reduction and in turn, self-care for me. If I get some chakras aligned, or if I can start, I don't know, painting with the colors of the wind, or something that is just a bonus.
This is an awesome blog post. To the point and just enough humor to keep me going. Also #relatable
ReplyDeleteSide note if your family truly likes yoga you should check out cosmickids.com the instructor is cute, brutish, and tells stories via yoga (Harry Potter and Star Wars included). GoNoodle has some good yoga meditation stuff as well ;)
All I have ever wanted was to be #relatable!
DeleteI am so excited to try those sites! I love stories and yoga and... oh... you were talking about the kids. Yeah, I guess they would like it too.
Thank you for the recommendation!
Self care takes letting go. Which is hard, but one of those things that you don’t realize how much you need until after you’ve had a little taste of it.
ReplyDelete100%! It is always when you are already going a little crazy that you finally break down and try letting go. I am hoping that I can challenge everyone in my life (and myself) to take that step a little earlier. Using self care as a PREVENTATIVE measure rather than a cure is the goal!
